The presentations for upcoming meetings promise to be quite interesting. In June, Laszlo Acs, our Chapter Executive Vice President, will provide an in-depth look at the current state of malware, and steps that you can take to protect your network both on the job and at home. Our next Chapter Meeting in September, will again be presented by one of our own, Chuck Boutcher. Chuck will speak on IT Crisis Management in today’s hyper-charged IT environment. We are also working on a return visit this year by Shawn Travers (Microsoft). These sessions will be well worth attending, so put them in your calendar. Please remember that we are taking our normal summer break – no Chapter Meetings in July or August. The May meeting featured two presentations. The first was by Trevor Bartlett, President of the EIU Student Chapter, and the second by Rick Graves, CISCO Technologies. Both presentations were excellent and the food was equally good. Trevor reported that the EIU Student Chapter is in good condition, and that he expects them to do well at the 2010 NCC. Trevor reported that our support for the EIU Student Chapter is important, and very much appreciated. Trevor is currently employed by State Farm in Bloomington, and intends to become a member of Capitol Chapter. Remember to make your reservations for the June meeting.
Laszlo Acs, Topic: Computer Virus How- To. Laszlo will give us the specifics of virus (and other Mal-ware) creation. Learn how mal-ware is written, distributed, who does it, and what it does to the unsuspecting user. The presentation will also cover some of the available freeware and commercial anti-malaware products, and why you may need to run more than one product to detect malware.
